Painting of The Caledonian Hotel, Edinburgh

I consider this to be one of my finer paintings (so help me...), a watercolour of the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh from winter, early 1999. It is perhaps an unusual view, through the trees from a graveyard, but I was interested in the idea of seeing the World around us through trees, as we so often do, and how dark and dense these trees can be. In fact, over the years I can't help thinking that if I were to paint this today I would make the trees much denser and darker to almost obscure the subject behind. This is an idea I have also explored with my photographs too.
